8ビット (8 bit) is a chiptune (hard) rock album.
I made this album because I always liked NES, SNES, NEO GEO, AMIGA, ... game soundtracks.
I tried to create a sound that reminds me of the time that my buddy and I played console games together for what seems now ages ago.
However, I did not try to make game music per se. The songs just needed to breathe nostalgia and sound fun.
Beside rock, this album incorporate other styles of music like simple flamenco, classical music and plain silliness (aka my own style ;-)).
Some of the songs have a thought behind them, which you can read below.
0001 - About a Girl
This song is about falling madly in love for the first time.
0010 - Q
The name of the song, 'Q', can be heard clearly in the song, with some imagination.
0011 - Red Rose Vertigo
The first song of a band called 'RRV' I played in. Two guitars, a drum computer and someone who 'sang'... good times.
0100 - A Psycho's Serenade
I just started learning the basics of Spanish guitar at the time. It inspired me to write this song.
0101 - The Trick that Fits the Thingy in the Bag
The silly title 'The Trick that Fits the Thingy in the Bag' came quit naturally. If the song had vocals one would sing 'We put the thingy in the bag' over the main riff.
Composed together with Nick Coucke. Check out his band on Facebook: Pawnshop Blvd.
0110 - March of the Evil Fluffy Chicks
This is a tribute to great run-and-gun games like Metal Slug.
Composed together with Nick Coucke.
0111 - A Simple Story
This goes about being stuck in the friend zone. You can read the same-named melodramatic story that goes with it, if you like.
1000 - Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came
Inspired by Robert Browning's poem / Stephen King's The Dark Tower series.
I would like to thank Wannes De Smet for making the album cover art and Cinos Modnar (
